$1 million Jumbo Bucks prize makes for second million-dollar win for Randolph County man

Max Bouldin of Trinity tried his luck on a new $10 ticket and won his second $1 million lottery prize.

“I’m just shocked,” he said as he claimed his Jumbo Bucks prize Thursday at lottery headquarters. “I’m in awe. This is a one in a million chance.”

Back in July of 2018, Bouldin won $1 million on an Extreme Millions ticket. He purchased his latest lucky ticket from the Trindale Mini Mart on N.C. 62 in Trinity.

“I feel so blessed,” said Bouldin. “By winning this one here, it is definitely a blessing.”

He had the choice of taking the $1 million as an annuity of 20 payments of $50,000 a year or a lump sum of $600,000. Bouldin opted for the lump sum of $600,000 and took home $424,503 after required state and federal tax withholdings.

“I’m very grateful,” he said. “I just can’t believe this.”

Jumbo Bucks launched this month with eight top prizes of $1 million. Five top prizes remain to be won.

Educate yourself people. He ia not being taxed 600k. The prize is not 1 million if yyou take lump sum. Its 600k minus taxes. To get the million dollar payment you must take the annuity over 20 years. Its the only state that I seen that hides the prize money this way. Every other state I have been too, the jackpot prize that is mentioned is for both lump sum and annuity. Thats why in NC anything under 1 million you receive that payout listed no matter how its received. Its a trick to make it seem like higher prize money. Stick with $5 cards and you have a shot at nearly the same dollar amounts.

Congratulations! I've been playing for years and never won over $10. Winning a million dollars twice is somewhat of a miracle. And it's not just people winning in high populated areas. I live in a small town and there is a man who has won a huge amount off a scratch off and then a year or two later he scratched off a million dollar ticket and he bought the ticket from an old country store in the middle of nowhere. There's just those people who have that kind of luck. Again, congratulations.

I feel the same way about where all the winners seem to be towards Raleigh. They know where the winning tickets are distributed. Send some to Brunswick CountyNC Lottery
Hi Donna, I appreciate your concern. We don’t know where the winning tickets will be and it is no easier to win the lottery in once place over another. The triangle and triad are simply highly populated and have more people playing the lottery. If you live in these areas it is not easier to win. No matter where you live you have the same chance to beat the odds as anyone else.

Congratulations! What a Blessing! Invest it wisely. I do think it a damned shame to "win" 1million dollars, and when all is said and done- after state and federal taxes-taxes you're left with less than half a million $500,000!!

Congrats! I wish you would pass this comment to the board - people win all around us, Raleigh, Charlotte, Bailey, Rocky Mount but no Wilson. I’m talking about the big money not the recent win of 10 thousand. Luck is not the factor here and yes I enjoy playing but some results would be nice for other areas as well.

Hi Sean, I understand your concern. 95 cents out of every dollar spent on a lottery ticket is returned to the state in the form of prizes, commissions and earnings for education. Less than 4% of our revenue is spent on administrative expenses, and that includes advertising.

It really amazes me how the same people win multiple top prizes on scratch offs. This is because the top prize tickets are distributed in the same area over and over. I have read about theses multiple time winners quite often. Before it’s said NO I don’t believe in coincidences.
