Alamance County man hits $110,000 Cash 5 jackpot with Online Play

Phuong Tran of Burlington tried his luck on a Cash 5 ticket and ended up winning a $110,000 jackpot.

Tran purchased his winning Quick Pick ticket for Thursday’s drawing though Online Play on the lottery’s website.

He claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters and took home $79,828 after required federal and state tax withholdings.

Carolina Cash 5 tickets are $1 and drawings are held every night. Tuesday’s jackpot is $100,000. The odds of winning a Cash 5 jackpot are 1 in 962,598.

Cash 5 is one of four lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets through Online Play either through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

What happens if you give someone half to play a ticket online, and you two win on that ticket? Not everyone wants an online account. NC Lottery
Hi Patricia, groups of players often purchase lottery tickets together. The lottery would pay the prize to the person who purchased the ticket so it is important that both players are in agreement about how the prize would be split. If the players would like to split the prize at the time of claiming, then we need both the person who bought the ticket and the person who would claim the ticket to confirm their agreement before the prize could be paid.
