Rockingham County man ‘multiplies’ his luck to score $250,000 prize

Johnny Hairston of Eden lucked out when his $5 ticket revealed a $250,000 lottery prize.

He purchased his winning 20X The Cash ticket from the Meadow Green Shell on South Van Buren Road in Eden.

Hairston claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and took home $176,876 after required federal and state tax withholdings.

The 20X The Cash game launched in February with 10 top prizes of $250,000. Two top prizes remain to be won.

@ Mark H. it's not showing the towns or cities of the winners in any of games now. Maybe you'll get an answer as to why not ?! ok by me if they leave that off. wish the winners had the choice to stay completely anon but that's up to our legislators.

the reason I'm asking is because you have always showed where the winners are,city,town,and store.There has been a lot of questions on here about why you see so many big winners in certain areas,you see many more in Fayetteville than Charlotte,and questions concerning the amount of big winners surrounding the Raleigh area.NC Lottery
Hi Mark, we wanted to let you know we don’t know where the winning tickets will be and it is no easier to win the lottery in once place over another. The places you mentioned are simply highly populated and have more people playing the lottery. If you live in these areas it is not easier to win. No matter where you live you have the same chance to beat the odds as anyone else.

Hi Gregory, great question! The only prizes are $50 or $100, so $50 would be the smallest prize available. Good luck!

The wording on the new "Corvette & Cash" scratch off is incredibly deceiving and borderline reeks of the classic "Bait & Switch" tactic. Upon first looking at the ticket, any reasonable person would assume you could scratch it and instantly win a "Corvette Stingray" right then and there. Not the case. In fact, the Stingray can ONLY be won by ENTERING THE TICKET ONLINE. Why is this obliging information not on the FRONT of the ticket? Yes, it's written on the BACK but in VERY small print, and even then fails to mention that the car can ONLY be won via internet entry and NOT instantly on purchased ticket. Bottom line: The Lottery's lack of transparency could result in distrust and suspicion, even anger, from people spending their hard earned money in hopes of instantly winning a prize, only to find out they had ZERO chance of instantly winning. Shame on you. You can do better.NC Lottery
