8-8-8 on Saturday night wins Pick 3 players $4.9 million

Pick 3 players enjoyed a big Saturday night win.

The numbers 8-8-8 in Saturday night’s Carolina Pick 3 drawing added up to a $4.9 million win for lottery players.

The drawing produced 11,926 winning tickets that matched all three numbers. A player with a fifty-cent ticket won $250 and a player with a $1 ticket won $500.

Pick 3 players loved “trips.” The combination of three of the same numbers are some of the most popular combinations played. The odds of matching all three numbers in a Pick 3 drawing are 1 in 1,000. Winners have 180 days to claim their prizes.

Drawings in the Carolina Pick 3 game are held twice a day, at 3 p.m. and at 11:22 p.m. Players can either pick their own numbers or select a Quick Pick by allowing the lottery terminal to generate a set of three numbers for them.

If I cash a $500 ticket at a claims center, will I receive a 1099 Form also. NC Lottery
Hi John, great question. You would not receive a 1099 form for a $500 prize. For prizes under $600, you don’t fill out a claim form, and no taxes are withheld at the time of redemption.

If I have 5 winning tickets worth $2500,and if I go to the claim center,to cash each ticket individually for $500, will I be taxed. Also, will this be reported as income on a 1099 form. I realize I can go to a store but I would have to go to several stores to cash in all of the ticket.NC Lottery
Hi John, great question. The federal withholding begins with all prizes of more than $5,000 and the state withholding begins with all prizes of $600 or more. If your tickets all have prizes of less than $600, since they are separate tickets no taxes would be withheld. Depending on each individual's unique financial situation, a person's tax obligation could be more or less than what was withheld. That's why we recommend winners consult with a tax professional when they claim.

Hi NCEL quick question. I tried to cash my 888 ticket today around noon. 3 gtocery stores couldn't cash it due to what they saidcwas reaching payout limits for their stores (2 Food Lions and 1 Lowes Foods). Ive never had that happen before. I'll wait a few days but is this something you've heard before? I only cash tkts in big grocery stores for safety reasons. This in In Onslow County. Hi DL, thank you for letting us know. A retailer should be able to pay any prize under $600. If they don't have the cash on hand they should offer alternate forms of payment, like a business check or money order. If you are having difficulty claiming your prize then you also have the option of coming to one of our regional claims centers where they will definitely be able to pay out the prize. Sorry for the inconvenience.

How and when did players win 4.9 million dollars since the numbers were blocked from early morning? Not a fair game at all if you one can be prevented from playing a number of his/her choice.

Congratulations to all the winners and also the losers. Your time will come. Keep those 999's and quads in. It has been 4 1/2 years. 919 , 699, 799, 899, I could go on but you all get the point. There has to be another 9 in that 1 on one thousand draw. That is what NCEl says so keep them in.
