Durham County man bags half of $282,218 Cash 5 jackpot

Andrew Stock of Durham became one of two lucky winners to score a share of a $282,218 Cash 5 jackpot.

Stock purchased his Quick Pick ticket for Thursday’s drawing at the Sheetz on Corporate Center Drive in Raleigh.

His ticket was one of two that matched all five numbers, splitting the $282,218 jackpot. The other winning ticket was purchased at the Food Lion on Sunset Road West in Charlotte. The winner has 180 days to claim their prize.

Stock claimed his half of the jackpot, $141,109, Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and took home $99,835 after required federal and state tax withholdings.

Carolina Cash 5 tickets are $1 and drawings are held every night. Friday’s jackpot is $100,000. The odds of winning a Cash 5 jackpot are 1 in 962,598.

Cash 5 is one of four lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets through Online Play either through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

Hi Tarence, there are not currently any plans to bring Cash 5 Double Play online. However, we appreciate your feedback and the game developers take your input into consideration as they work to add more features to Online Play.

I think all games should be available on-line. There are a lot of times I wish I could play Pick 3 or Pick 4, but bouncing to a store twice a day gets old. Make it convenient for all of us. If you can do Lucky for Life everyday and soon Powerball three times a week. There is no way - you all can keep denying Pick 3 and Pick 4 for on-line play.

I noticed alot of "winners notified" for the cash plus drawings how long do they have to claim their prizes before a alternate is picked?NC Lottery
Hi Jeffrey, great question. Before a winner's name is posted on the website, he or she has to first respond to the notification and then complete the claim process, either by mail or in person at one of our claim centers. If a winner does not complete the claim process within 30 days of being notified the prize is awarded to an alternate winner chosen at random in the drawing.

@ NCEL, when will pick 3 and pick 4 become an online games? I hope soon. In my opinion players will appreciate it, if both games make it to online. Going to the corner store daily is not fun. NC Lottery

Hi NCEL I saw a customer asking about the quads. It is 1 in 1000 but what happens if you have predraws? That changes the game and a lot of people are not aware of these predraws. People want to win sometimes and a quad should come more than once a year if the stats are correct. These are the quads that people play a lot hoping one day to hit. Quad 555555, 8888 and 4444 have never hit in NC. They are way overdue and NCEL knows it. People have spent money on them so it is just a matter of when NCEL is ready. NC Lottery
Pre-draws are standard in the lottery industry and are done to ensure that the ball machines are functioning properly prior to the live draw. Please remember that since each drawing is an independent event, the results of pre-draws in no way affect the results of the live drawings. The odds are always 1 in 10,000, whether the number was drawn yesterday or 5 years ago.

Thank you Margaret. Those machines stay down more than their up. Especially in Sheetz Stores. The machines are running for a few days, then down for over a.week.

NCEL how often are the lottery vending machines in stores serviced. Every store I go tp, either the machine is empty or it’s broken and this has been an ongoing problem for awhile. One machine was empty for a week or more. Why have machines in stores if customers aren’t able to utilize them on a daily basis if they choose too. It’s to the point where you have to drive around to several stores to play or just keep your money and don’t play. NC Lottery
