Cumberland County man wins $100,000 playing Powerball

James Britt of Hope Mills tried his luck playing Powerball and won a $100,000 prize.

Britt’s $3 Power Play ticket, purchased at the Walmart on Legion Road in Hope Mills, matched four white balls and the Powerball in the Sept. 6 drawing to win $50,000. That prize doubled to $100,000 when the 2X multiplier was drawn. The odds of matching four white balls and the Powerball in a drawing are 1 in 913,129.

He claimed his prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,011.

The current Powerball jackpot for Saturday’s drawing is $20 million, or $14.2 million cash. The odds of winning a jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Wondering since the Powerball/powerplay last was x10.If someone had all 5 numbers would they get 10 million with the powerplay??? Something is just not right with the odds. What's going on NC.???NC Lottery
Hi there, Darlene! Power Play would apply to prizes lower than the jackpot and 2nd tier prize (matching 5 numbers). When matching 5 numbers, the Power Play is 2X automatically. I agree Shirley B. Numbers are repeating themselves.(1111 since Aug,2012)Now I've won sometimes but where are the 999????? As I've said before NC needs a TOTALLY NEW GAME. The scratch tickets are the same only a differnt name!!! And promotions each month. Thanks for consideration in this matter!!!!

Wow 854 can come out three times but 999 has not been out in 5 years. That is ridiculous NCEL. This is why people become uninterested on playing these games.
