Johnston County man wins $1 million on scratch-off

Mauricio Rebollar of Clayton took a chance on a $10 scratch-off ticket and won a $1 million prize.

Rebollar bought his Big Cash Payout ticket from the Eagles Express on Knightdale Boulevard in Knightdale.

Rebollar claimed his prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. He chose the annuity option so he will receive $50,000 a year for 20 years. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $35,508 on his first $50,000 payment.

The Big Cash Payout game launched in December with four top prizes of $1 million. Two $1 million prizes remain to be claimed.

Taking the payments over 20 years what happen to the remaining payments if he die? Not speaking any bad luck over his life.NC Lottery
This is a great question, Paula! If a winner were to pass away, all remaining annuity payments would be paid to the winner's designated estate.

Congratulation I wonder why so much money tax money have to be taken out of the lottery winnings. Yes he's getting so much every year but it still will be taxed. Is there a explanation?

Finally! A winner smart enough to choose the entire payout over 20 years! Great choice! It would seem from some comments below that not everyone understands how it works. I'm waiting for my chance to do the same thing.
