Monday’s $625 million jackpot ranks as 8th largest in Powerball history

The Powerball jackpot for Monday's drawing climbed into the top 10 in the history of the Powerball game, now worth an estimated $625 million.

Monday's jackpot stands at a $625 million annuity that is worth $299.8 million in cash. That represents the eighth-largest jackpot in Powerball’s history.

As North Carolinians try their luck going for the jackpot, they continue to win lots of other Powerball prizes. More than 30,000 players took home prizes in Wednesday’s drawing and one lucky winner matched four white balls and the red Powerball to win $50,000. The winning ticket came from Rosemart on Northwest Maynard Road in Cary.

The Powerball jackpot has already been won five times this year. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Players can buy Powerball tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com.

Hey there, William! The interest rate on annuity can vary, but the difference between the annuity option and lump sum amount accounts for the interest that would be accrued over time and used to pay out the annual prize payments (so for Powerball, that would be 30 years of interest).

I've noticed that the power all cash options have gotten smaller and smaller. I looked back at winners of large jackpots and noticed that winners of 600 million or more got well over 300 million for even lower jackpot amounts. What's going on?NC Lottery
Hi, Yvonne! The difference between lump sum amounts and annuity amounts accounts for the interest that would be earned and used to pay off the prize over time if a player chooses the 30-year annual payment option.

Has ANYONE in NC ever won the Powerball? Not in recent history I’m sure. Those petty “30,000 wins” mean nothing. Seriously, why waste our money on it? You’re much more likely to win the Lucky for Life or Cash 5 drawings. Just this year we’ve had a few jackpot winners in Lucky for Life. Hi Mark, several Powerball jackpots have been won in NC. Most recently in 2019 a Cumberland County player won a $344.6 million Powerball jackpot on a ticket purchased in Hope Mills.

No big winners at all in NC. only 13 players picked up 4 numbers for a few hundred dollars. It's a sad for the players of NC to be had like this.
