$1.8 million jackpot won in Thanksgiving Day Cash 5 drawing

Someone who bought a $1 Carolina Cash 5 ticket in Raleigh won a $1.8 million jackpot in the Thanksgiving Day drawing.

The lucky winner purchased the ticket through the lottery’s Online Play program, either on the lottery’s website or on the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

The win became the third largest in the history of the game.

To win the $1,860,192 jackpot, the ticket matched the numbers on all five balls. The odds of matching numbers on all five Cash 5 balls are 1 in 962,598. The winner has 180 days from the drawing to claim the jackpot.

The largest Cash 5 jackpot win so far occurred on April 19, 2021 when two Charlotte women split a $2.1 million jackpot.

Since the jackpot was won on Thursday, Friday’s jackpot resets to $100,000.

Players can buy Cash 5 tickets at any lottery retail location, through Online Play on the lottery’s website or by using the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Powerball, Mega Millions, and Lucky for Life tickets can also be purchased through Online Play.

Congratulations on the win, Inga! If you won with an Online Play ticket, wins of less than $600 will automatically be deposited into your account. You will then need to use the "Withdraw Funds" option to transfer those winnings into your bank account, which may take a few business days to process. Hope this helps!

Hi Cindy, Cash 5 tickets can only be purchased in North Carolina, so the winner has to either live here or be visiting! This jackpot was won by an online player from Wake County.

Hi Scott, for a prize of this amount, the winner will have to come to our Raleigh Headquarters to claim. Prizes under $600 are automatically added to your account, for prizes between $600 and $99,999 you can complete your claim online. Prizes over $100,000 must be claimed at our Raleigh Claims Center.

Any tickets sold up to the last moment before sales stop prior to a drawing will go into increasing that night's jackpot. The jackpot amounts are estimates, so the exact amount is not set until sales stop at 10:59pm every night, then the exact dollar amount is set and the numbers drawn.
