Cumberland County woman celebrates $150,000 second-chance win

Patricia Duffel of Linden took a second chance on a scratch-off ticket and won a $150,000 prize.

Duffel won the grand prize in the Dec.7 Holiday Spectacular second-chance drawing. She arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $106,515.

Players get a second chance with their holiday scratch-off tickets by scanning them into their lottery accounts where they are automatically entered into the next drawing. Winners of second-chance drawings get their first notification by email, followed by a phone call, and finally a certified letter.

The second and final Holiday Spectacular second-chance drawing on Feb. 8 will offer one $150,000 prize, two $10,000 prizes, and 100 prizes of $500. The deadline for entries is Jan. 31.

Hey there, Pat! Players are only eligible to receive one prize in each drawing, but you could win a prize in multiple drawings in the same series. The exception to this is if you win a top prize - you can only be awarded one top prize per second chance series (so if you won the top prize in the first Holiday Spectacular second chance drawing, you would not be able to win another top prize in the next Holiday Spectacular second chance drawing). To NCEL me myself I do not care for the fireball I think it’s stopping a lot of us from hitting our daily numbers I really wish that they would do away with it I would rather have the red ball,white ball or yellow ball that game returned year round and take away the fireball that’s just my opinion or you guy’s hire me to work for y’all I have a lot of great ideas and I understand if you hire me I will no longer be able to play the lottery which is cool with me because if I become employed with NCEL that will be my Jackpot Thank you now how do I apply NC Lottery

I entered thousands of points on this one and again nothing. I really don't think these drawings go by the amount of drawings. Can't even win 1 of the 100 of for 5 hundred. Apparently everyone needs to move to Charlotte.NC Lottery

While each entry has the same odds of being a lucky winner, regardless of where the player lives or how many entries they had (having more entries can increase your odds of being a winner, but each entry has the same odds to be randomly selected) - it just takes a lot of luck to be a winner!
