Mega Millions jackpot rises to $429 million for Friday’s drawing

The Mega Millions jackpot continues to roll as it stands at $429 million for Friday night’s drawing.

A North Carolina winner would have the choice of taking home the $429 million as an annuity or $233.6 million in cash.

Even though the jackpot remains up for grabs, North Carolinians are still taking home other nice prizes. In Tuesday night’s drawing, a lucky ticket matched four white balls and the yellow Mega Ball to win $10,000. The prize doubled to $20,000 when the 2X Megaplier hit. The ticket was purchased at the River Bend Fuel Market on U.S. 17 South in New Bern.

The Mega Millions jackpot has been on a roll since two tickets in Florida and California split a $502 million jackpot in the Oct. 14 drawing. The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302.5 million.

The Powerball also has been on a roll recently as Saturday’s jackpot rises to $149 million, or $80.4 million in cash.

Players can buy Mega Millions tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com, or with the lottery’s app, the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

After the outrageous fiasco with the Powerball only a couple months ago, I can’t bring myself to purchase any tickets for these monstrous jackpot draw games. Jackpots like these go to predetermined winners or types of winners, and all you’re doing when you buy tickets is put more money in the pockets of the tax departments (has anybody noticed how insane the winnings taxes are??). You’re much better off playing a smaller draw game like Cash5 or Lucky for Life: your odds are WAY better and there’s less reason for the system to rig things. Plus, because the jackpots are smaller, you pay less taxes. But anyway, here’s hoping that a person who really needs it ends up being the winner!
