Gaston County woman wins $3 million on scratch-off

Cathy Stroupe of Bessemer City took a chance on a $30 scratch-off and won a $3 million prize.

Stroupe bought her lucky Fabulous Fortune ticket from Kingsway #5 on South 14th Street in Bessemer City.

When Stroupe arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to collect her prize, she had a decision to make. She could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $150,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $1.8 million. She chose the lump-sum amount of $1.8 million and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $1,278,189.

Fabulous Fortune debuted in July with six $3 million prizes and 18 $100,000 prizes. One $3 million prize and nine $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

NC lottery I have stopped playing scratch cards for one simple reason, you took away all prizes big enough to retire on?!?!? Why would you do such a thing anyone with a brain is not going to play anymore.....

Congratulations on your big win! Oh, what I could do with 1,278,189 dollars. Key West, fla, here I come for about 2 months. Maggie valley, for another 2 months. Then on to pigeon vorge, Gatlinburg Tennessee. Then on to myrtle Beach and Wilmington, nc. Then take a break, to help out my daughter's with some of it. A few family members as well. Set some back in a saving,to be divided upon my death. Which I hope would be a long time from now. I can dream about it, because I don't buy the 30 dollar tickets.
