Thirteen scratch-off games are ending soon

It’s time to say good-bye to 13 of our scratch-off games. So scratch ‘em and cash ‘em while they are still for sale! The games end Friday, March 11. You’ll have 90 days afterward to claim any prizes you’ve won. The games are:

$20 ticket: $150 Million Cash Explosion
$10 tickets: Carolina Black: Millionaire Edition, Merry Money Blowout
$5 tickets: VIP Cashword, CA$H PLU$, Holiday Cheer
$3 tickets: LOTERIA™ (#761), Peppermint Payout x3
$2 tickets: Lucke Bonus Cash, Cash Spooktacular, Holiday Doubler
$1 tickets: Super Hot 7’s, Fast $50

All prizes must be claimed on or before Thursday, June 9.

Claims between $600 and $99,999 must be made at one of the six regional claim centers before 5 p.m. that day. Claims of $100,000 or more must be made at lottery headquarters in Raleigh before 5 p.m. on that day as well.

Mail-in claims must be received within 90 days of the official end-of-game date. Remember, postmarks will not satisfy the 90-day requirement.

If these are some of your favorite games, you have two more weeks to play them.

To Tim B,I’ve seen several times in years past when a scratch game ended with big/ top prizes unclaimed. A $20 Scratcher with 4Million @ a million ended few years ago. I believe most of them were accidentally thrown away / not checked by buyer. I can’t prove or not NCEL put out all win tickets.But I know of stories of 1-$500 tickets found in trash or discarded. I’ve even found $30 winner on ground myself on a $30 scratch off. Crazy but it has happened more than people realize

Hi, William! We do not remove jackpots from a game while it is still in circulation. Once a game ends, if there are any remaining jackpots, 50% of those amounts will go to the education fund, and the other 50% will go back to other games in the form of prizes. Hope this helps to clarify!

Sandra M. I know what you mean, I think. On any given days they’ll close certain numbers. Trips happen a lot and it’s basically when the “house” is selling too many of a certain number. Some times 911 will close on 9/11. Sometimes, prob like the other day 2/22/22, people played a lot of 222, so it got closed. 333 has been hot lately so it’ll close on occasion. I recommend playing early. If not day, right after the day draw for the evening draw.

Why did you stop distributing the cash explosion 20$ tickets at the beginning of February? When there is still a 4 million dollar prize out there? How convenient the last 4 million dollar prize and you end it before it hits! NC Lottery
Hi Tim, thanks for the question! We make every effort to keep a game in circulation until all of the top-prizes have been won. Ticket sales and other extenuating circumstances might cause a game to end early and tickets go unsold. If sales are lower on an older game, the lottery might make the decision to end that game in order to make way for a new game with more prizes available.

Hi Sandra, there is no limit on how often triples can be drawn in Pick 3 and quads drawn in Pick 4. It is just a matter of luck.
