Haywood County woman pockets $150,000 lottery prize

Melannie Beaver of Canton tried her luck on a $5 scratch-off ticket and won a $150,000 prize.

Beaver bought her lucky Mystery Prize Cashword ticket from Southeast Energy on Russ Avenue in Waynesville. Beaver arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $106,516.

The Mystery Prize Cashword game launched in September with six top prizes of $150,000. Two $150,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

Hey, William! We try and post regular blog updates about games ending soon, and we continually update our website here https://nclottery.com/ScratchOffEnding with the list of games. If games are ended with top prizes remaining, 50% of those prizes will go to the NC Education fund and 50% will go back to players in the form of prizes for other games. Hope this helps to clarify!

So question on ticket pickups. I noticed on the $20 $150 Cash Explosion tickets, your workers starting taking those out of stores long before you announced it was ending thus giving no one a chance to go for the last top prize. I see now the $30 $10 Million Colossal Cash has disappeared from all grocery store vending machines and is being picked up early now too I assume with no heads up from the lottery and a top prize also remaining. Is it not possible for the lottery to give players a heads up that your workers are starting to pull these tickets? Leaving top prizes is a bad look to me and makes it seem rigged. I know you claim that it means you didnt sell all the other tickets to pay for that top prize but dont you think if you told players "hey we are going to take these out of stores over the next 2 weeks" there would be a rush of sales?
