Leonard Burch’s good luck with the No. 7 made him the winner of the 100th jackpot in the Fast Play game.
On Thursday night, Burch, who lives in Huntersville, stopped at the Highland Creek BP on Ridge Road in Charlotte and tried his luck on a $10 Jackpot 7s ticket.
At first, he thought he had won a $1,000 prize, so he asked the clerk to check his ticket too. That’s when he got the good news. He had just won a $42,361 Fast Play jackpot.
“There it is,” he said the store clerk told him. “You won!”
“I was happy” said Burch.
He claimed his prize Friday at the Charlotte office and, after state and federal tax withholdings, took home $30,083. He said he and his wife may use his winnings for a “good vacation” to Hawaii.
The No. 7 has brought Burch luck before. In July, he claimed a $100,000 prize in the Ultimate 7’s scratch-off game.
The win of the 100th jackpot occurred just 18 months after the start of the Fast Play game in North Carolina. On average, someone has won a jackpot about once a week.
The rolling, progressive jackpot increases with every ticket sold until it is won and it starts over at $20,000. On Friday afternoon, the jackpot climbed $33,000 and was still growing.
