Lee County man wins $1 million lottery prize

John Rosser of Broadway tried his luck on a $10 scratch-off ticket and won a $1 million prize.

Rosser bought his lucky Jumbo Bucks ticket from Value Mart on Carthage Street in Sanford.

When Rosser arrived at lottery headquarters to collect his prize, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump-sum amount of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $426,063.

Nobody is being robbed and taxes are a part of life...give it a rest people. If you want to wait 20 years to collect the full prize (pre-tax), feel free. Winners are not forced into taking less, they are given a CHOICE.

Lol, you take home less than 45% of what's actually written on the oversized check. Of course, it's better than not winning. But many people are just saying that what's written is not what's received.

Why should the state or federal governments have rights to anything you win? The lottery should be a non-profit, what is earned is paid out and the fees pay for wages and school budgets. We're taxed for everything at least once, sometimes twice!
