Dueling jackpots total more than $400 million

Powerball and Mega Millions are heating up with dueling jackpots that together total more than $400 million.

Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot stands at a $207 million annuity that is worth $119.3 million in cash.

Powerball’s jackpot has edged ahead by $3 million in the duel, standing at a $210 million annuity that is worth $121.3 million in cash for Wednesday’s drawing.

You don’t often see Mega Millions and Powerball offering jackpots of similar size at the same time. It will be fun to see how hot these jackpots get before someone wins one. Let’s hope that win, or both of the wins, happen in North Carolina.

Powerball and Mega Millions each offer other ways to win besides the jackpot.

In Mega Millions, other prizes for $2 tickets range from $2 to $1 million. In Powerball, other prizes for a $2 ticket range from $4 to $1 million.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million. The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302.5 million.

Have you gotten stories of winners taking a annuity instead of a lump sum? I always see a lof lump sum winners. Hope for reply.NC Lottery
Hi, Clint! We definitely do have players choose the annuity payment option, it really just depends on the player. With top prizes, players generally will have the option for annuity payments over 20 years, or a lump sum payment option that is around 40% less than the annuity prize to account for the interest earned on the payments over those 20 years. Whichever option a player wants to choose is entirely up to them, though!

I will win a jackpot. I don't know when but I will win one day and I will win a second chance drawing jackpot as well....I love playing Lottery and scratching the scratch off tickets too.I also love my North Carolina blood that runs through my veins. Proud to be American and A North Carolinian as well. And yes, it should be pretty interesting too watch the PowerBar and the mega millions close in the dollar amounts and see which one surpasses the other.
