Alexander County man stopped for drink, “stunned” to win $100,000

Daniel Costner of Taylorsville stopped to get a drink, tried his luck on a new lottery game, and found himself the first winner of the game’s $100,000 prize.

“I was stunned,” Costner said. “I had to sit there and look at it for a few minutes.”

Costner bought his lucky $30 Fabulous Fortune ticket from the Market Basket on N.C. 16 South in Taylorsville.

“I had to get another set of eyes to look at it to make sure I was seeing correctly,” Costner said.

Costner collected his prize at lottery headquarters and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,019.

Fabulous Fortune debuted this month with six $3 million prizes and 18 $100,000 prizes. Five $3 million prizes and 17 $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

I will second Maurice C. comment on the new $10 ticket. I purchased ticket 19 through 29 all losers not a single WIN! Then purchased four of the $30 Fabulous Fortune and all losers! This is the craziest thing I have seen. Been buying progressive tickets and nothing $2, $5, $10, & $20 you can't tell me my luck is that bad.

The lottery is making it harder and harder for people to win scratch-offs. If you know notice the prizes on these tickets are way less than the other 30-dollar scratch-offs. I can't win anything over 60 on these tickets. It is so frustrating you see people win 3 times on the lottery and you play everyday day and cant win. Far as those rigged new 10-dollar blowout tickets I bought 14 tickets and only won 50 bucks on ticket 000 the rest were all losers. The lottery used to be fun playing now it's frustrating and a pest. Don't want to stop playing but what's the use of you spending money and never winning prizes.
