A new year means new scratch-offs this First Tuesday

While some like it hot, others prefer it cold. But don’t worry, these new scratch-offs offer something for everyone.

It’s a battle of the elements with brand new Fire and Ice scratch-offs. For those who prefer the heat, Fire offers the best odds to win $100 out of our $5 games. And for those who like the chill of winter, Ice offers the best odds to win $50 out of our $5 games.

how does the second chance draws and the other lucke rewards draws work if someone does not respond to the email or the never got it are there other ways the lottery reaches out before awarding the prize to alternateNC Lottery
Hi, Terrance! Great question! Winners are notified within 48 hours of the draw day via email. If we don't hear back, we'll give the winner a phone call and will send a certified letter to the address on the winner's account if we need to. Since the only way we can get in contact with a potential winner is by the info on their NC Lottery account, this is a great reminder to always keep your info up-to-date!

Was wondering, was there any particular reason, that ICE is a 200,000 top prize and fire is only 100,000 top prize?NC Lottery
Hey there, Roger! No particular reason other than just having different prize structures for each ticket - the FIRE ticket has 4 top prizes instead of 3 for the ICE ticket, and FIRE has higher odds of winning some of the smaller prizes, especially winning $100 (the odds of that are 1 in 100 for FIRE) whereas ICE has different odds for its different prize levels as well.

Ever since the lottery decreased main prizes and started dumping new runs on old runs the scratch off tickets have gotten terrible. Record profits! Someone should be fired and jailed for letting the odds get this bad!

Now a $100,000 grand prize on a $5 ticket. Major prizes get worse and worse.

Yvonne, the odds of getting the top prize on a scratch off might be long but it's still much better than winning MegaMillions, Powerball, or even Lucky for Life. And at least there's chance of winning something with scratch offs, even if it's a break even prize or making a few dollars. And there are some decent prizes in the thousands. The odds of winning a just a couple of dollars on Powrball and MegaMillions is 1 in 25. If you are going to play the lottery, I'm convinced scratch offs, Cash 5, or the progressive jackpot game is the best money for the odds.

The odds on the scratch offs are so bad I significantly cut back on buying tickets. The new 3 holiday ticket was the worse. The impossibility of winning a second chance drawing even for a $100 makes scratch off unattractive anymore.
