Raleigh man bags $150,000 Powerball prize

Kelvin Barr of Raleigh took a chance on a $3 Power Play ticket and won a $150,000 prize.

Barr bought his lucky ticket using Online Play. He matched the numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball in the April 19 drawing to win $50,000. His prize tripled to $150,000 when the 3X multiplier hit.

Barr arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to claim his prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $106,876.

Saturday’s Powerball drawing offers a $20 million jackpot if taken as an annuity or $8.8 million in cash.

Players can buy Powerball tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Yes, it's a shame one person wins all that billions of dollars. Just don't seem right! All the people who came so close of winning with 5 numbers right, but no powerball number to match. Looks like there should have been multiple winners on that drawing. Nope, there wasn't. I spent my share of money trying to play to win anything from a powerball number right, all the way up the scale to win the jackpot. But no cigar for me, I just contributed my money to help all the winners who did win something. A dollar and a dream, in hopes of being a winner,just once in my lifetime, going to be 70 in December, don't know if or when my dream will come true!

I have a problem with pic 3 draw.I have noticed for a while when they drop the balls they don't give balls time to shuffle especially the first number.you'll notice high numbers don't get drawn much.let balls shuffle before it pops up couple seconds isn't asking to much.thanks

I agree with you Gina. The Powerball and Megamillion seem so rigged. Why are we wasting our hard earned dollars on it. And yes NC needs it's own Lotto like Florida and a few more states. On another note, NCEL you haven't drawn a Quad in almost 3 years. Players want a Quad

Happy for you, enjoy. But 4 me I'm never playing powerball again. THIS STATE NEEDS TO WAKE UP AND HAVE IT'S OWN STATE LOTTERY, AT LEAST THERE WOULD BE BETTER ODDS.... And if I could add one more thing, it would cap out at 20 million and payout to everyone. I'm sure there are mathematicians who could come up with a formula. NO ONE FAMILY OR PERSON NEEDS ALL THAT MONEY... BUT HERE IN AMERICA GREED RULES.
