Harnett County woman collects $1 million scratch-off prize

Eladhandro Williams of Lillington tried her luck on a $30 scratch-off ticket and won a $1 million prize.

Williams bought her lucky Millionaire Maker ticket from Cape Fear Beverage on Old Road in Lillington.

When Williams arrived at lottery headquarters Friday, she had a decision to make. She could choose to receive her prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump-sum amount of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $427,509.

Isn't taking home 600k already taking out taxes from the 1 million lol. So they took 400k and then another $172,491 from the 1 million prize smhNC Lottery

The difference between the lump sum amount ($600k) and the annuity prize amount ($1 million) accounts for the interest that would be earned and used to pay out the prize over the 20 years if the player chose the annuity option. Whether a player chooses the annuity or lump sum amount is up to them, but we are required to withhold the minimum state and federal taxes either way!

Hey there, Alisa! Sorry for any inconvenience. You can toggle through the numbers at the top of the Past Draws page to find results from older drawing dates on Pick 3 and Pick 4 games, and you can choose the month/year for all of our other draw games.

Hi, Jean Paul! The winner had a choice between a $1 million prize paid in annuity over 20 years ($50,000 a year) or a lump sum of $600,000 up front! The winner chose the $600,000, and after minimum state and federal tax withholdings, took home $427,509. Whether a player chooses annuity or lump sum is up to them - though we are still required to withhold the minimum taxes from either choice. Hope this helps to clarify!
