$10 Million Spectacular game goes on sale

For the first time ever, the lottery has unveiled a $50 scratch-off ticket. The $10 Million Spectacular ticket features a $10 million top prize, our highest top prize on a scratch-off game.

In addition to five $10 million top prizes, the new $50 ticket includes 20 prizes of $1 million. If you are looking at $500 prizes, this ticket also has you covered as it offers the best odds on a $500 win of any scratch-off. And don’t forget about the five bonus spots so you can win up to 40 times. Wow!

Hi, Sheila! When a lucky player wins the $10 million top prize, they can choose between annual payments of $500,000 for 20 years, or a lump sum up front of $6 million. Either option will have minimum state (4.75%) and federal (24%) taxes withheld!

Thank you for your answer. So a follow-up. Why can New York or Florida for example pay out $6 million on a lump sum scratch off but North Carolina cannot? Same money in the same bank account with the same interest rate. Should not be a $2 million difference. So to me, North Carolina is withholding more than they have to, or else other states would not be paying out far more on lump sum wins for the same value prizes right?NC Lottery

Hi, can you explain why NC has one of the lowest lump sum payouts on scratch offs in the country? Example: New York $10 million scratch off lump sum winner gets over $6 million after all taxes. Yet in NC it's barely over $4 million which is less than half the stated top prize. Clearly it's NC choosing to keep this as other states pay out lump sums well above NC. ThanksNC Lottery

The difference between the lump sum and annuity amounts is not a tax on the prize money; that difference accounts for the interest that would be earned and used to pay out the prize over the 20 years of annuity payments. Think of it as the lump sum payment is sitting in a bank account currently, and the annuity payment includes that plus the interest that would be earned over 20 years! Whether a player chooses the lump sum or annuity amount is up to them, but required state and federal taxes will be withheld from the prize regardless of what a winner chooses.

Other states offer $25 million prize for their $50 ticket game. I would have preferred to keep the $10 million prize at the $30 ticket price point and the $50 ticket for the higher prize. I'm not against the $50 ticket, just the grand prize amount.

@charlotte s. Apparently you didn't know A lot of stores purchase and their tickets a day or two before the "first Tuesday date". It has been mentioned several times on this blo. Also, I witnessed the $1500 sale and the receipt. I go to this store all the time. I have no reason to lie.

Same I bought 4 also I work at a retailer that sells lottery all 4 I bought were lossers and I haven't cashed ANY WINNERS AT ALL. Not sure but seems there wanting more money out of us?????

How can a man purchased a book when the game just came out Dec 5th it must be another game he purchased. Walmart did not even have them this morning came back around 4pm and they had the $50 tickets. Btw lost $100! lol! Good luck everyone!

I remember when the first $30 ticket the nc lottery had a few years ago had a top payout of 10 million. Now it costs $50 for a 10 million dollar ticket?
