Robert McLean of Greensboro said a $20 scratch-off purchase will help pay for a family trip to Tulum, Mexico after it revealed a $100,000 prize.
“This is going to help me have a good time while I’m down there too,” he added.
McLean, 63, bought his lucky 100X The Cash ticket from Pop Shoppe on Stanley Road in Greensboro. He took his ticket home, turned on SportsCenter, and started scratching.
“I started seeing zero after zero,” McLean said. “It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life.”
He shared the good news with his daughter right away.
“Once I heard that scream go off I knew she had seen it,” McLean laughed.
He stopped by lottery headquarters Monday to claim his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,256.
The new 100X The Cash game debuted in December with five $2 million prizes and 10 $100,000 prizes. Four $2 million top prizes and seven $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
