Wilson County man wins first $100,000 prize in new scratch-off game

Abraham Hernandez of Wilson took a chance on a $30 scratch-off and won the first $100,000 prize in the new $5,000,000 Ultimate scratch-off game.

Hernandez bought his lucky ticket from Mar-Mac Express Mart on U.S. 117 South in Dudley. He arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to collect his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,259.

The $5,000,000 Ultimate game debuted this month with five $5 million prizes and 15 $100,000 prizes. Five $5 million prizes and 14 $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

Hello, Greg E. you must don't visit store's to often as there are many of people, groups, etc buying rolls of tickets. Plus there are many players that only scratch the barcode and check to see if it is a winner or loser. I was just putting facts that I purchased a whole of tickets and it only had one WINNER from 000-029 in that roll, so they do exist. Have a great day!

Also wonder that I hit like 4-5 rolls at a time the roll numbers for example be 1st 4011 2nd 4012 3rd 4012 4th 4013 5th 4015 so do they not come in order

@NCEL you are correct about the randomness, because I purchased a whole roll of tickets and that roll only had (1) winning ticket number 16 and all the rest was losers I really wanted to mail the Pack down to you all just so you know. I know it is a chance, but really that is horrible. We all looking for a dream otherwise we would not be playing. I see people all the time scratch the bar code and that's it. People are out to WIN. You could come up with ticket that was just a Barcode and say there was a 10 million prize on it and people would buy it for the chance to WIN. Have a great day!

IMHO....In regards to the comments below about randomness, if you follow along as to where winners are located, I see that many winners are in the Greensboro and Raleigh area. Regardless of scratch-off's Cash 5 or whatever. Is that just random...hmmm. Makes me wonder.NC Lottery
Hey there, William! In higher populated areas, there are more players taking a chance to win – this is why you’ll sometimes see more frequent winners from our bigger cities. However, the odds are the same no matter where you purchase your ticket: big city, small town, or through Online Play. It just takes a whole lot of luck to be a big winner!

Hi, @Angela! Winning tickets at every level are distributed at random to our more than 7,000 retailers across the state throughout the entire printing run of the game. Due to this randomness, every roll of tickets has a unique mix of winning and non-winning tickets. If you aren't enjoying yourself we would rather you take a break than feel frustrated. With games of chance there is never a guarantee of winning, only a chance to win.

@NCEL I really don't believe that you all don't know what roll has the top prizes. There is no way you would have a briefcase with 5 million in it and not keep eyes on it at all times. Now you don't know who will purchase it, but you know the roll or at least someone do. This would be checks and balances if you don't know then why do stores order rolls and the serial numbers are not in consecutive order. I know this, because I buy rolls of tickets and they are not in order. You all have winning piles and losing piles; otherwise we would see all the top prizes in the first week of the release and the game would be over and you all would not have robbed us. Please be honest with us.

When scratch-off games become active, are ALL of the top prizes released into circulation? If not, why would the odds of winning not be reflected on an updated basis? If I have 1/365 chance of grabbing a 1 red ball from group of 364 white balls that makes sense, but if the red ball is randomly added to white ball group, those odds are misleading. NC Lottery
Hi, Joseph The odds are set at the beginning of a game and will fluctuate throughout the life of the game as tickets are sold and prizes are won. We don't withhold winning tickets and then release them after a certain time. Prizes are distributed at random throughout the entire printing run for a game, and then as stores order more tickets, more rolls of tickets are shipped to each store. There's no way of telling when or where a winning ticket will show up.
