Charlotte man collects a $100,000 Powerball prize

Fekri Soussi of Charlotte tried his luck on a $3 Power Play ticket and won a $100,000 prize in Monday’s Powerball drawing.

Soussi bought his lucky Quick Pick ticket from Adams Mart on Elm Lane in Charlotte. He matched the numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball to win $50,000. His prize doubled to $100,000 when the 2X multiplier hit.

Soussi claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,257.

Saturday’s Powerball drawing offers a $308 million jackpot, or $160.1 million in cash. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

You can get a Powerball ticket at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

Hello NCEL. Is there a reason why the names are no longer populating on the 500/500 Ultimate winners? They were populating the other day, but they no longer populate all the other games are showing the list. Thanks :-)NC Lottery

Hi, Christopher! Anywhere there are more chances being taken to win—for example Raleigh or Charlotte—the odds will play out more often there over time. You'll have a larger volume of both winning and non-winning tickets in proportion with the odds. That has no effect on the likelihood of a particular ticket winning or not winning a prize, whether it be in a big city or a small town. It has to be that way in order for the lottery to be fair to everyone.
