Fayetteville man enjoys $150,000 scratch-off win

William Johnson of Fayetteville took a chance on a $5 scratch-off ticket and won a $150,000 prize.

Johnson bought his lucky Cashword Multiplier ticket from Ya Ya Food Mart on Graham Road in Fayetteville.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to collect his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $106,876.

@John R. - Hi, John! If you look on any of our scratch-off games' pages, you'll see that the overall odds are not a match for the odds of winning the smallest prize tier. Odds of 1 in 12 for winning $50 on Black Titanium means that approximately 1 out of 12 tickets printed throughout the run of the game will have a $50 prize on them. Overall odds of 1 in 4.14 means that out of all of the tickets printed for the game, approximately 25% will have any prize on them. If you look at the other games on our site, you'll see that this is consistent with others as well - overall odds are the odds of winning ANY prize, not just the lowest prize tier. https://nclottery.com/scratch-off

In every scratch off game, the overall odds of winning any prize inc break even prizes are listed on back of ticket. Those odds are always commensurate with the odds of winning the smallest prize available for that particular game. HOWEVER, in the new black platinum game, the back of the ticket says approx 1:4, then on your site it says the odds to win the smallest prize is approximately 1:11. THIS MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. In the overall grand scheme of the overall odds for any game, you cannot have odds that are about 3 times different. 1;4 vs 1:11. That makes NO SENSE! For all you players out there, avoid this game. I have bought about 12 tickets, one at a time, all at different stores and times. For a total of 360$ I have won on ONE ticket for 150$ meaning the odds of 1:11 are the accurate odds, not 1:4 as they claim. Less than 50% return on money! Another scam brought to you by nceducation lottery.

Hi there, Letia! Having overall odds of 1:4.14 means that approximately 1 out of every 4 tickets printed will have a prize. This does not mean that if you purchase 4 tickets in a row, you'll be guaranteed to receive a winning ticket - it just means that throughout the entire run of the game, approximately 1 in 4 of the tickets printed will have a prize on them.
