Beaufort County man wins first $4 million prize in new game

Durwood Dixon Jr. of Washington took a chance on a $30 scratch-off and won the first $4 million prize in the new Black Titanium game.

Dixon bought his lucky ticket from Mom’s Grill on John Small Avenue in Washington.

When Dixon arrived at lottery headquarters Tuesday, he had a choice to make. He could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $200,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $2.4 million. He chose the lump sum of $2.4 million and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $1,710,009.

The Black Titanium game debuted last month with six $4 million prizes and 16 $100,000 prizes. Five $4 million prizes and 16 $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

I have a question for the lottery official do you see in the future a player being able to add say a 5.00 winning tickets that you able to scan on your phone to your online account. I user this in Virginia and Boy was that nice. I'd had ask thru the app but who ever was on the other end couldn't comprehend what I was asking ty for your time. NC Lottery

I don't understand..... 4 MILLION WIN down to 1.7 MILL.???????? Some adjustments need to be made here....I've been reading comments before about other states mot taking this much off the top, and now these figures are evidence in our face. Y'all are going to make people take trips across the borders, which won't be far for thousands of people, who can be in another state, in a few minutes, to win bigger for a $30 dollar wager, for alot of us this is a big gamble! I know it's for the kids and that's great. BUT GIVE CONSIDERATION TO WHERE THIS MONEY COMES FROM EVERYDAY!!!!!!NC Lottery

The 40% difference between annuity and lump sum prize amounts accounts for the interest that would be earned on the prize and used to pay it off over the 20 years if the winner chose the annuity amount. What a winner chooses is up to them, though either way we will withhold minimum required state and federal taxes!
