Raleigh man plans to help abused animals with $100,000 win

Raleigh resident Richard Jones said he will use a $100,000 scratch-off prize to help take care of abused animals.

“My daughter is an animal rescue person and she has a 501(c)(3) that helps abused animals,” he said. “I’ll give her a nice donation to help the world a little bit.”

Jones bought his lucky $30 Millionaire Maker ticket from the Han-Dee Hugo’s on Creedmoor Road in Raleigh. He arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday to collect his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,259.

“It’s nice to win but we will still go to the same hamburger place that we always go to,” Jones laughed.

Jones said in addition to donating some money to help abused animals, he plans to take a trip to Jekyll Island.

God bless you son I owe a 12 yrs old American bull dog mix and he's our son we would do anything for him he saved my fiance life several times. He's our Kozmo and we live him to the moon and back we all have arthritis.

Richard, this was meant to be for you! We have done the same thing with many of our winnings. There is nothing better than being able to help a defenseless animal in need to give such unconditional love and they deserve everything we can do for them.
