The weekend Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots just got even bigger as both increased Friday afternoon with the combined amount worth more than $1 billion.
Tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot, originally at $427 million, jumped $23 million, now standing at a $450 million annuity worth $225.6 million in cash.
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot, originally at $590 million, climbed $25 million, weighing in as a $615 million annuity worth $310.6 million in cash. It now ranks as the 10th largest Powerball jackpot in history.
Both Powerball and Mega Millions attributed the increase in jackpots to strong ticket sales as people across the United States try their luck at winning one of the two major jackpots.
The drawings continue to produce big wins in North Carolina. In Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, two tickets matched four white balls and the red Powerball to win $50,000. One of the tickets increased to $100,000 when the 2X multiplier hit. Check out where they were purchased:
- The $100,000 win occurred in Mocksville in Davie County with a $3 ticket purchased using Online Play
- The $50,000 win occurred in Denver in Lincoln County with a $2 ticket purchased at Fairgrove Food Shop on North N.C. 16
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million. The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million.
