Virginia man wins $2 million in record Mega Millions drawing

Albert Hahn of Bracey, Va. tried his luck on a $3 Mega Millions ticket in North Carolina and won $2 million in the Aug. 8 record-breaking drawing.

Hahn bought his lucky Quick Pick ticket from Buy & Go on North College Road in Wilmington. His ticket matched the numbers on all five white balls to win $1 million. The prize doubled to $2 million when the 2X Megaplier hit. The odds of matching numbers on all five white balls are 1 in 12.6 million.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $1,425,001.

Hahn won one of two $2 million tickets in the drawing. The other came from Florida. The $1.58 billion jackpot on Aug. 8, the largest in Mega Millions history, was won by a single ticket purchased in Florida.

Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing offers a $36 million annuity, or $17.5 million in cash. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302.5 million.

Ms. Shirley, do you watch the live pick 3 and 4 drawings. How can it be rigged??? First you complain about trips and quads. When they do hit, do you play or win? Because we never see a response from you. Now you're complaining about other numbers. Maybe, it's time to take a break.....

NCEL Where is 911, 955, 321, 101?These numbers are way pAt due. Now ya'll wa t to give e players 5.00 tp play pick 3 and pick 4. People are losing interest because winners make the games exciting. Mostly everyone talking about too many repeats and not enough versatility.

Hi, Shirley! Our team has strict security procedures in place to ensure that every set of numbers has the exact same chance of being drawn in every drawing. This includes using a randomly selected ball machine and randomly selected ball set during each different drawing. Every combination has a 1 in 1,000 chance of being drawn in each and every drawing. In games where you can choose numbers from 0-9, it’s no surprise that we see similar patterns come up every so often.

Wow! What a win! I'd buy me an RV and pay my son in law to take me and family all across the UNITED STATES! I visit every historical places, in the USA. Head down to key west, Florida first,stay a month or so, then head over to the west coast of Florida, stay awhile. Just thinking of all the things we can do, before I'd leave this world. My wife has already passed on, so I would enjoy every minute of it, with her picture by my side. She always wanted to do this, cancer is a bad disease to have. RESTING IN PEACE now!

While it's nice for this man to win, it's also a bit disheartening. So few winners anyway, and its someone from a different state. It's the same with LUCKE rewards...you enter points and enter points and the same areas always seem to win those monthly LUCKE rewards prizes. It would be nice to know just how many entries would get a winner..... kinda depressing....NC Lottery
Hi, Rosemary! We use a secure Random Number Generator (RNG) to conduct Lucke-Rewards and second chance drawings. The RNG doesn't know who that entry belongs to - whether they've won before, whether they live in NC, etc. - each entry is assigned a numerical value and the RNG randomly selects the winning entries. Every entry has the same odds of being randomly selected. While having more entries increases your chances to be a winner, sometimes it only takes one lucky entry!
