Tonight North Carolinians have a chance at the largest jackpot offered in Mega Millions history with a $1.58 billion prize on the line.
A winner could claim the estimated jackpot as a $1.58 billion annuity or $783.3 million in cash. The $1.58 billion jackpot ranks as the third largest in U.S. history. The jackpot increased by $30 million on Tuesday due to increased sales in anticipation of the drawing.
Players all across the state lined up to try their luck at the record jackpot. In Brunswick County, players flocked to Calabash Food & Fuel, one of the state’s top lottery stores, to buy a ticket.
“It is crazy in this store, especially when the Mega is high,” said South Carolina resident Kevin Ryder on Tuesday. “It is wild in here.”
In the 31 drawings since the last jackpot hit, tickets sold in North Carolina have won:
- Four $1 million prizes
- One $50,000 prize
- Two $40,000 prizes
- One $30,000 prize
- One $20,000 prize
- 18 $10,000 prizes

Players can buy Mega Millions tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302 million.
