Winston-Salem man bags $100,000 scratch-off prize

Mohammad Ashraf of Winston-Salem took a chance on a $25 scratch-off and won a $100,000 prize.

Ashraf bought his lucky Extreme Cash ticket from S & K Food Mart on Thomasville Road in Winston-Salem where he works. He bought the ticket on his day off.

He claimed his prize Wednesday and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,257.

I still say people should not be allowed to buy lottery tickets from the store they work at. If they want to play they should be required to buy their tickets at another store. Although it may be “legit” and it probably is, it just does not look right. When sweepstakes cafes were operating employees were not allowed to play at the store they worked at. Again, it just doesnt look good.

Hey there, Mark! While there is no law in North Carolina barring retailers or their employees from playing the lottery, more than 80 percent of all lottery retailers in North Carolina report having a “No Play on Duty” policy for employees, including 99 percent of corporate retailers such as grocery and convenience store chains. Lottery prizes are only awarded when there is no evidence to suggest something is wrong. :)

This is at least 5 times now that a large prize like this has been won by a player who either worked at the location it was bought from or owned it. I don't care if it was his day off or not, he had no business buying the ticket from where he works.NC Lottery
