Union County woman wins first top prize in new scratch-off game

Barbara Chambers of Wingate took a chance on a $5 scratch-off and won a $200,000 prize.

Chambers bought her lucky More Money ticket from Xpress Mart on U.S. 74 in Wingate.

She arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $142,501.

Four $200,000 prizes remain to be won in the game.

Why is it 95% of the winners are all east of I-77? Don't you think people who live west of I-77 play the lottery? This goes for scratch-offs as well as draw tickets or do you want the winners close to the major cities? I'm beginning to think it's rigged!NC Lottery
Hey there, Tarence! The majority of North Carolinians live east of the mountains. It's not easier to win depending on where you live, there are just more folks taking a chance to win there. If you read our blog from week to week you'll see we have winners in the west, too!
