David Webb of Burnsville took a chance on a $5 scratch-off and won a $200,000 top prize.

Webb bought his lucky Triple Red 777’s ticket from Triangle Stop Food Store on Ozone Drive in Saluda.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim his prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $143,001.

The Triple Red 777’s game debuted in July with five $200,000 top prizes. Two $200,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

Yancey County has received $30 million in state grants funded by the lottery to help with school construction needs. For details on other ways money raised by the lottery made a difference in Yancey County last year, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.

@NCEL since you all say you don't know where a winning ticket is located. What happened to the tickets that was destroyed in the storm and how will that change our odds since you don't know?NC Lottery
Hi there, Angela! There’s a chance that a lost or damaged ticket had a prize on it. Since the lottery and retailers do not know where winning tickets are, we can’t know when a prize goes unclaimed why that happened. If retailers report tickets lost or damaged, then the lottery can account for that, but we won’t know if those tickets had prizes. The “Prizes Remaining” count could include prizes that won’t be claimed if tickets were lost, damaged, or thrown away. In a perfect world, all tickets would be sold and all prizes claimed, but since accidents and floods happen, that’s not always possible.
