A quick stop for orange juice led Kelly Spahr of Kernersville to the first $250,000 top prize in a new scratch-off game.
“It’s a life-changing amount of money for us,” she said. “It really helps us out a lot.”
Spahr purchased her lucky $20 Merry Multiplier scratch-off from the Quality Mart on Piney Grove Road in Kernersville because she liked the look of the new ticket.
“When I was at the gas station I saw that there were new tickets out so I decided to try them,” Spahr recalled. “The ticket has a folding part on it which is what sold me on it.”
Spahr said the big win means a lot to her family.
“This just opened up some more doors for us,” Spahr said.
She collected her prize at lottery headquarters Tuesday and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $178,756.
“It’s nice to know that big wins like this really do happen,” Spahr said.
The Merry Multiplier game, a booklet of five scratch-off tickets, debuted this week with three $250,000 top prizes. Two $250,000 prizes remain to be claimed. All holiday scratch-offs also can be entered into the 2024 Holiday Second Chance promotion. The promotion features a Feb. 5 drawing to win a $250,000 top prize, 10 $10,000 prizes, and 100 $500 prizes.
