Duplin County woman wins $200,000 second-chance prize

Amy Darboe of Wallace tried her luck in a second-chance drawing and won the $200,000 grand prize on Wednesday.

Darboe found out that she won the top prize in the 2023 Holiday Second Chance drawing when she got an email notification from the lottery. There were more than 22 million entries in the drawing.

She arrived on Friday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $143,000.

Players got a second chance with their holiday scratch-off tickets by scanning them into their lottery accounts where they were automatically entered into the drawing. In addition to the $200,000 top prize, the drawing had two $50,000 winners and 200 winners of $500.

Jennie, I have been entering them since 2014 and have entered over 50,000 times and won nothing. How some people are winning 2-3 times with millions of entries and a "random" number generator is beyond me as well. What else can you do.

All I can say is congratulations y'all I mean goodness somebody's got to win it right you can't win if you don't play but listen up I have been playing second chance for about two and a half years now I have submitted probably 10 15,000 tickets that I have not won not even $1 what am I doing wrong I work at this like it's a full-time job how do I change my luck what do I need am I holding my tongue wrong can y'all cross your fingers and say a prayer for me tonight cuz we're desperately trying to buy our first house thanks y'all congratulations
