Buncombe County man celebrates $133,315 jackpot win

William Taneyhill of Fairview tried his luck on a $1 Cash 5 ticket and won a $133,315 jackpot Monday night.

Taneyhill bought his lucky ticket using Online Play. His ticket matched all five numbers to win the jackpot. He split the $266,630 Cash 5 jackpot with another winning ticket purchased at a store in Spring Lake. The odds of matching numbers on all five balls are 1 in 962,598.

Taneyhill claimed his prize at lottery headquarters Friday in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $95,321.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Monday’s jackpot is $279,000.

If you bought a ticket at a lottery retailer or vending machine, you can scan the ticket using the scanner on our mobile app, or manually enter the Lucke-Rewards code at https://nclottery.com/RewardsTicketEntry to check if your ticket was a lucky winner, as well as earn Lucke-Rewards or second chance entries for eligible tickets. If you're wondering about a win with an Online Play purchase, you will receive an email notifying you if one of your online tickets was a winner, and that email will contain instructions on claiming your prize. I agree with Gina.. I have played so many of the 50$ tickets and enter 2nd chance winnings. No big winnings.. just a few hundred now and again. It’s a lot of money to spend at one time. Congrats to all the winners. Blessed and more blessings

I wish you guys would extend the time for the program making you sign back in, it's very aggravating. It was much better the way it was. It's a shame there is only 1 more 2nd chance drawing THIS YEAR, for the 10 Mill. Spect. ticket . There could be a drawing every month on this $50 ticket. This would at least give MORE players hope and anticipation. One more thing: I think the number of entries should be posted beside the winner's name on 2nd Chance AND Lucky Rewards Drawings.NC Lottery
