The Tar Heel community gathered Friday morning in Bladen County to celebrate the brand-new Tar Heel School with a ribbon cutting.
Students, teachers, parents, and elected officials turned out to commemorate the occasion and to highlight what sets this school apart.
This incredible building could not have been built without your support. Your play provided Bladen County with a $40 million grant from a state school construction fund, funded mostly from the lottery to build the new school. The total project cost $47 million.
“That fund has helped bridge the divide for smaller districts like ours to build the schools they need,” said Bladen County Superintendent Jason Atkinson.
This new school combines both Plain View Primary School and Tar Heel Middle School, originally built back in 1925, into one, new-and-improved campus.
“We’re all winners here today,” said Sam Allen, mayor of Tar Heel. “But the real winners are the kids who will walk into this school for years to come!”
