Rachel Sadler of Lincolnton thought first of her grandchildren after she won the first $4 million top prize in a new lottery game.
“I’ve got a bunch of grandkids,” she laughed. “I want to make sure they have a nice future.”
Sadler bought her winning $30 Supreme 7s scratch-off on Tuesday from Save Mart on East Main Street in Lincolnton.
“It was my first time buying that ticket,” she said. “I guess I just liked the blue and white color.”
When Sadler arrived at lottery headquarters to collect her prize, she had a decision to make. She could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $200,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $2.4 million. She chose the lump sum of $2.4 million and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $1,716,009.
“I think I’m still in a state of shock,” she said.
The Supreme 7s game debuted in July with four $4 million top prizes and 10 $100,000 prizes. Three $4 million prizes and nine $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
