Mega Millions jackpot jumps to $535 million for tonight’s drawing

The Mega Millions jackpot raced past the $500 million mark for Friday night’s drawing.

A winner in tonight’s drawing would have the choice of taking home the $535 million jackpot as an annuity or $265.6 million in cash. The jackpot jumped $8 million on Friday, going from $527 million to $535 million due to increased sales.

“The Mega Millions jackpot run continues with thousands of winners in North Carolina every drawing,” said Terri Rose, Chief Brand Officer of the N.C. Education Lottery. “Some prizes make your day. Some make your week. Hopefully someone in our state will bring home a life-changing jackpot tonight. Good luck.”

  • 23,051: That’s the total number of winning tickets in North Carolina in Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing
  • $7.4 million: That’s the estimate of how much money has been raised for education in North Carolina during the current Mega Millions run

The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million.

@Paul S. - Hi, Paul! Winning once doesn't prevent a player from being lucky again, though every entry in each of our drawings has the same odds of being randomly selected. Each entry is assigned a numerical value, and we use a secure Random Number Generator (RNG) to randomly select the winning entries. So while having more entries can increase your chances of being a winner, sometimes it only takes one lucky entry to win!

Wasn't sure where to leave this comment but why is it that a handful of names keep coming up as winners?? They win scratch offs, second chance drawings and the lucky rewards drawings??? I, as well as many people I know, have entered into multiple lucky rewards drawings with a large amount of entries over many years but never win anything. I realize that it is all a "game of chance" BUT when the same names keep popping up over and over in more than one area of winnings (as stated above), people can't help but wonder just how much of a coincidence this is and the odds of ]eople winning over and over.... These people must be EXTREMELY "lucky" or is it indeed "luck " or perhaps something other than luck... Who else feels this way??NC Lottery

Sweet! I may never win the lottery and change dreams innto reality. But at least I can rest peacefully in the fact that I never took money fraudulently in the name of charity to increase the poverty base. Those things are never overlooked in the grand scheme of things.
