Charlotte man collects $100,000 scratch-off win

Jorge Meraz Mendez of Charlotte took a chance on a $30 scratch-off and won a $100,000 prize.

Mendez bought his lucky $5,000,000 Ultimate ticket from Yorkmont BP on Yorkmont Road in Charlotte.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim his prize and, after required tax withholdings, took home $65,500.

The $5,000,000 Ultimate game debuted in March 2023 with five $5 million top prizes and 15 $100,000 prizes. Three $5 million prizes and five $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

Look at all these recent winners. Demographics must be showing a loss of consumer faith in lottery players. This game was one of the worst second chance drawings. A second chance drawing at $500 on a $30 scratcher. It shows a lot.

NCEL: Thanks for your ticket checker NOT working in the retail store, of which in said store's parking lot, someone threw down on the ground a "Spectacular Riches" ticket worth $100.00. AND thanks for my phone checker working, because it said "Won $100" on thrown away ticket, AFTER I DID THE WORK OF ACTUALLY SCRATCHING THE TICKET!!!! PEOPLE, put in the work and scratch the ticket and make your brain work, instead of just scratching off the BAR CODE to quickly find out if you have won. Anyway thank you to the litter bug for throwing away ticket, and thank the lord for $100 dollars that I can really use, as I am just a caregiver for my 85 yr. old parents and don't make much money.
