Beverly Lipford of Goldsboro just became one of 16 finalists to have a chance at winning a $1 million prize as part of the NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ promotion.
“It feels great,” Lipford said. “I’ve been playing the lottery for a long time.”
Lipford’s luck started when she entered and won the NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ second-chance drawing in May. She was then randomly selected from a national pool of Powerball players during a preliminary drawing on Aug. 13. The 16 finalists were publicly announced earlier today during the broadcast of the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, S.C.
The 16 players will face a series of drawings similar to the elimination rounds of the NASCAR Playoffs. The four lottery players left after the final elimination drawing will win a VIP trip for two to NASCAR Championship Weekend™ in Phoenix, Nov. 8-10, plus entry into the drawing for the $1 million prize.
“I got that feeling that I’m going to go all the way,” Lipford said.
In addition to a possible $1 million prize, the VIP trip includes roundtrip airfare for two to Phoenix, Ariz., three nights hotel accommodations, Ally Curve Hospitality Club passes for both the NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship Race on Nov. 9 and the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race on Nov. 10, and two passes for VIP experiences at Phoenix Raceway during the NASCAR Championship Weekend.
The $1 million announcement will be broadcast live during NBC’s pre-race coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race™ on Sunday, Nov. 10.
The next elimination drawing will occur on Sept. 21 during the Bass Pro Shops Night Right Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The four lottery players eliminated will win $2,500 each.
