Rowan County man on $100,000 second-chance win: “right place, right time”

Christopher Engels of Kannapolis always enters into second-chance drawings and on Wednesday it paid off with a $100,000 top prize win.

“It was just the right place, right time,” Engels said.

Engels won his lucky prize in the Season End Blowout drawing. The drawing had more than 5 million entries.

“I was definitely happy and excited,” he recalled. “Now I can tell people I won something really big.”

Engels said he has been looking forward to this moment for years.

“For the past two or three years I’ve been wanting to come to Raleigh but I wanted to win a big prize so I would have a good reason to come here,” Engels laughed.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to claim his prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,750.

The Season End Blowout drawing awarded three North Carolina lottery players with a $100,000 prize. One prize remains to be claimed.

How do you know if you won anything with 2d chance? I have signed in and the enter 2d chance numbers doesn't come up.NC Lottery
Hi, Richard! Second chance and Lucke-Rewards winners are notified via email, generally within 48 hours of a drawing. Winners will also receive a phone call or a certified letter through the mail if we're approaching the 30-day claim deadline and we haven't heard back from the winner.

Good morning NCEL, I would like to inquire as to what are you doing to fix the scanner option? This is the second round of scratch offs that I have purchased and the scanner will not operate properly on my cellphone. Clearly, we are aware that the quality of the scratch offs are decreasing to cover rising costs, but can you please do something to allow your paying customers the ability to use the scanner to receive their points and/or winning status? Congrats but I literally spent 50k plus points for over 560 entries and didn’t even get picked is really heart breaking I’m sure nobody put it more than me next time it shouldn’t be only 3 people it should be up to 10 to 20 people so that way we will have a better chance of winning to
