Patsy Avery of Midland dreamed of winning the lottery and her dream came true on Sunday with a $332,952 Cash 5 jackpot win.
“I don’t dream very often but I had a dream I would win the lottery,” Avery said. “When I dream, it usually comes true.”
Avery, a grandmother of four, said she has a strategy she likes to use when she plays the lottery.
“I pick a bunch of different stores and buy tickets at each one,” she explained. “I probably stop at 10 different stores.”
Avery bought her lucky $1 Cash 5 ticket from Jerry’s One Stop on N.C. 27 East in Iron Station. Her ticket matched all five numbers to win the jackpot. The odds of matching numbers on all five balls are 1 in 962,598.
“I’ve been playing my same numbers for a long time,” Avery said.
She claimed her prize on Tuesday at lottery headquarters and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $238,893.
Avery said she didn’t have plans for her winnings yet so she will put it in savings for now.
Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Tuesday’s jackpot is $110,000.
