Thirty-one years after their marriage, Cheryl Bach of Holly Springs and her husband will get the chance to take a honeymoon after she won a $1 million scratch-off prize.
“I’m going to take a vacation with my husband that will finally be our honeymoon,” she said. “I haven’t decided where yet.”
Bach said she couldn’t believe her eyes when she won.
“I had to put my glasses on to make sure I was seeing it right,” Bach laughed.
She said it took her some time to calm down.
“I was shaking for the rest of the day,” Bach said.
She bought her lucky $10 Million Spectacular ticket from the Harris Teeter on Village Walk Drive in Holly Springs. She called her husband immediately to share the big news.
“He didn’t believe me,” Bach recalled. “I had to take a picture to show him.”
When Bach arrived at lottery headquarters Friday, she had a decision to make. She could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $430,514.
In addition to her honeymoon, she plans to pay some bills with her winnings.
The $10 Million Spectacular game debuted in December 2023 with five top prizes of $10 million, 20 prizes of $1 million and 20 prizes of $100,000. Since the last $10 million prize has been claimed, the lottery has started the process of ending the game.
