Fayetteville woman collects $607,642 Cash 5 jackpot

Josepha Sasamoto of Fayetteville took a chance on a $1 Cash 5 ticket and won a $607,642 jackpot.

Sasamoto bought her lucky Quick Pick for the Sept. 12 drawing from Murphy Express on Lillington Highway in Spring Lake. The odds of matching all five balls are 1 in 962,598.

She claimed her prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $435,983.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Thursday’s jackpot is $504,000.
