Johnston County man bags $250,000 second-chance win

Needham Wiley Jr. of Smithfield tried his luck in a second-chance drawing and won the $250,000 grand prize.

Wiley won the top prize in the third of four 2025 Multiply The Cash Second Chance drawings. There were more than 36.7 million total entries in the Oct. 8 drawing.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to collect his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $179,375.

Players get a second chance with their Multiply the Cash scratch-off tickets by scanning them into their lottery accounts where they are automatically entered into the drawing. In addition to the $250,000 top prize, the drawing had four $20,000 winners and 20 winners of $500. The final drawing will take place on Feb. 4.

These second chance games are nothing but a marketing ploy to sell as many lotto scratch tickets as possible to the public. Preferably, the $30 & $50 tickets that the lottery has pushed for several years now as society gets worse. If NCEL really cared, they would only allow one entry per 2nd chance drawing per player account. But we know that's not going to happen. Shame on the shameless.

I won $400 in a second chance drawing several years ago. Also won a pack of tickets once in a facebook contest. These drawings are definitely real. It is just very hard to win.NC Lottery

Has NCEL ended second-chance drawings tied to scratch off tickets? No new contests have been announced for awhile now, and it was surprising to see the latest $50 Ultimate Blowout ticket without a 2nd chance.NC Lottery
