Schuprell Hinnant of Kenly first thought of her mother after winning a $100,000 lottery prize.
“I called my mom and said, ‘I think I won,’” Hinnant said. “She was in disbelief.”
Hinnant said she sat in her car staring at the ticket for a while.
“I was just like, ‘This isn’t real,’” Hinnant recalled.
She bought her lucky $30 MAX-A-MILLION ticket from Papa Jacks Store on N.C. 42 West in Kenly. Hinnant could barely believe her eyes when she scratched the ticket.
“I did about three or four takes,” Hinnant laughed.
She arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,758.
Hinnant plans to use her winnings to help her mom get a screened-in porch for her house.
The MAX-A-MILLION game debuted in March with 25 top prizes of $1 million and 10 prizes of $100,000. Eighteen $1 million prizes and seven $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
