Patricia Hockaday of Raleigh just became one of four finalists with a chance at winning a $1 million prize as part of the NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ promotion.
The $1 million winner will be announced live during NBC’s pre-race coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race™ on Sunday, Nov. 2.
“I think I’ve already won but I have to wait until they pull my name,” Hockaday laughed.
As one of four finalists, Hockaday has great odds of winning the $1 million prize. The four finalists were announced today during the NBC broadcast of the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Va.
“I finally told my children and my son was like, ‘Wait, wait, am I hearing this right,” Hockaday recalled.
Hockaday’s luck started when she entered her Powerball ticket into the NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ second-chance drawing in May. Sixteen players were then picked to have a chance to win the $1 million prize. They faced a series of drawings similar to the elimination rounds of the NASCAR Playoffs. Hockaday survived all three elimination drawings. Now she and her husband will take a VIP trip to NASCAR Championship Weekend™ in Phoenix, Oct. 31 – Nov. 2.
In addition to a possible $1 million prize, the VIP trip includes roundtrip airfare for two to Phoenix, three nights hotel accommodations, Ally Curve Hospitality Club passes for both the NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship Race and the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race, and two passes for VIP experiences at Phoenix Raceway during the NASCAR Championship Weekend.
“My husband has been jumping up and down,” she laughed. “He’s so excited to go.”
Hockaday said she already knows how she would spend her winnings.
“I want to pay off my house and save for my retirement,” she said.
This marks the second year in a row that North Carolina has one of the four finalists in this promotion.
