Patricia Hockaday of Raleigh became today one of eight finalists to have a chance in the NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ promotion of winning a $1 million prize.
Hockaday has survived three drawings so far to keep advancing for a chance at the big prize.
“Oh, my goodness, this is a dream come true,” she said. “I’m carrying the whole state on my back.”
Hockaday’s luck started when she entered her Powerball ticket into the NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ second-chance drawing in May. In August, she won a drawing to make the Round of 16 and then in September made the Round of 12.
On Sunday afternoon at the Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Hockaday and seven other Powerball Players from across the nation made it to the Round of 8 in the promotion. Hockaday and her husband attended the race as guests of the N.C. Education Lottery.
Now Hockaday will wait for the next drawing. Four finalists will be announced Oct. 26, at the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. If Hockaday makes it to the final four, she and her husband take off on a VIP trip to the NASCAR Championship Weekend at the Phoenix Raceway in Arizona.
As a finalist, she will have the incredible one in four odds of winning $1 million. The $1 million winner of the NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ will be announced live during NBC’s pre-race coverage of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Championship™ on Nov. 2.
“I’m looking forward to this, Hockaday said, “and pray it is my turn to win.”
She said she knows how she would spend her winnings. “I would put the money toward my retirement and spend more time with my grandkids,” she said. “I may even take the hubby on a trip for a week.”
